Bushcare
Our natural environment is crucial to all aspects of life. We depend on it to provide food and shelter, resources and recreation, and it is vital for our health and wellbeing. Bushland habitats are under increasing pressure from human impacts, pests, diseases and climate change but we can make a difference in many ways! Connecting with and caring for our natural world is the first building block to effective action. By enjoying a gentle walk on a bush track, taking time to notice and identify birds and their song or looking for the ultimate nature shot on your camera helps builds awareness and connection from which caring can naturally grow.
In addition to providing quality plants through our Nursery, Kersbrook Landcare Group aims to provide opportunities for members to:
- Connect with, appreciate and care for our bushland environments and the many species that depend on them
- Understand the importance of maintaining these areas so that habitats and biodiversity are protected for the future
- Develop the knowledge and skills required to work safely and effectively in areas of native vegetation
Bushcare Activities
Our group helps to care for both Stone Quarry Reserve and Stone Reserve situated near Kersbrook. Working together with Bush For Life (Trees For Life), we provide organised activities which generally focus on the removal of weed species threatening the native vegetation at these sites. We also contribute to maintaining several other sites in the Williamstown area.
Bush For Life provides the equipment and training to anyone interested in supporting our work caring for our local bushland. Come and join like-minded people for half or whole day activities knowing you’re making a valuable contribution and learning new skills.
Hale Conservation Park near Williamstown is an area of high conservation value and is home to several rare and threatened plant and bird species. Kersbrook Landcare Group has a strong interest in the management of this park and works with other agencies to protect and maintain this valuable area of native bushland through the provision of funding and hands on support.
