About Our Nursery
Growing over 250 local native species, the Kersbrook Landcare Nursery is a valuable biodiversity nursery resource for the Adelaide region. We are committed to caring for and enhancing our local environment by producing a wide range of tube stock plants for both private and public properties.
The Kersbrook Landcare Nursery (formerly The South Para Biodiversity Nursery) has been operating since the late 1990s. In 2009 the Nursery moved to its current site (still within South Para Reservoir land) where we have been able to develop the Nursery to as it is seen today. The Kersbrook Landcare Nursery is run by the not for profit Kersbrook Landcare Group Inc. We would like to acknowledge SA Water who provides our site at the South Para Reservoir in exchange for tube stock plants for their many planting and restoration projects.
Our Nursery is staffed by a Nursery Manager and a team of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers work to propagate and care for our plants at the Nursery on Wednesdays, as well as many being involved in seed collection throughout the year. Nursery volunteers also work hard each year to batch orders and make our public plant sales a success.
Each year the Nursery propagates about 90,000 tube stock plants using local provenance seed, as well as a range of cutting grown species. These plants range from understorey plants, small and large shrubs to climbers, rushes, grasses, and trees. We take pride in propagating several species that are rare, difficult to propagate or hard to source. Aiming to keep our plant prices low we ensure accessibility and thus greatest environmental impact. We have a focus on the Adelaide Hills area but also grow species local to the Adelaide Plains, Barossa and a small range of species local to other parts of South Australia. By selecting a wide range of plants of different colours, sizes, layers and textures you will be encouraging biodiversity by creating habitat for birds, butterflies and other insects, and many other animals.

Funding Other Projects
Profits from our Nursery are used by the Kersbrook Landcare Group to fund other important environmental initiatives in our region. Any purchase you make from our Nursery will work twice for the environment; first enhancing your own property as plants and habitat, and later helping to fund other local environmental projects.
Funds raised from plant sales are being used to support other local groups and projects including:
- Reprinting of Focus on Flora
- Management of Hale Conservation Park
- Friends of Para Wirra Conservation Park
- BioR
- Mid Torrens Catchment Group – Paddock Trees Project
- SA Bird of Prey Rehabilitation Centre
- Woodland Rescue Cromer CP
- The Habitat Recovery Alliance
- Mid Murray LAP SA – Meldanda
- Friends of Osprey SA
Plant Sales
Each Nursery year culminates in late autumn-winter with the collection of the season’s orders and our very popular Public Plant Sale Days.
